What This Demo Tests

ๆผขๅญ—

Recognizing and reading N5-level characters like ๅฑฑ (mountain) and ๆฐด (water) in context, not from a flashcard.

่ชžๅฝ™

Choosing the right everyday word for a situation, the same skill the exam's vocabulary section tests.

ๆ–‡ๆณ•

Picking the correct particle (ใฏ, ใŒ, ใ‚’, ใซ, ใง) to complete a sentence, the single most common N5 question type.

How the Quiz Works

Each question gives you four choices. Pick one, press Check, and only then does the app tell you whether you were right.

That extra step is deliberate. When the answer is visible while a student is still deciding, what usually happens is they read it, nod, and move on. An hour later they remember nothing. Committing to a choice first is mildly uncomfortable, and that discomfort is doing most of the work.

Get one wrong and the explanation opens underneath straight away, while your reasoning is still fresh. This matters more than it sounds. Reading the same explanation a week later, once you have forgotten why you picked what you picked, teaches you a fraction of what it would have taught you ten seconds after the mistake.

What Happens After the Demo

Five questions can tell you roughly where you sit. They cannot teach you anything.

In the full app every answer feeds a review schedule. Items you miss return within a day or two, items you know drift out to a week and then a month, and the intervals keep adjusting as your accuracy moves. Spacing of that kind is what raises a score, and it needs dozens of sessions before the effect shows, so a short demo can show you the format but not the method.

You can carry on without an account, though. The kanji, vocabulary and grammar lists below are open to anyone, and the grammar guides work through each N5 pattern in detail.

Which Level Should You Register For?

This is the question beginners ask me most often, and five questions is a blunt instrument for answering it. Still, it separates the two cases that matter. Answer four or five correctly and N5 will bore you; go and look at N4 material instead. Miss three or more and start here, without skipping ahead. Land in between and either level is defensible, so pick based on how much time you have before the exam date.
