่จ stands alone and appears on the left in a very large family of kanji: ่ช, ่ฉฑ, ่ชญ, ่จ, ่ชฌ, ่ชฟ, ่ญฐ, ่จณ. The compressed Chinese form ่จ exists but Japanese keeps the full ่จ, so what you learn here is what you will see.

Learn one radical properly before the JLPT and make it this one. ใใในใ is among the most productive in the language, and its meaning almost never wanders: language, speech, writing, explanation. In a reading section it narrows an unknown kanji to 'something about saying or describing', which is often enough to pick the answer.

Writing the top stroke of ่จ too short, so it reads as ้ณ or as a generic seven-stroke block. The long horizontal at the top is what identifies it.

All three sit at the crossroads of 'things related to the mouth or speech', which is exactly why they get confused. ๅฃ is the simplest: a plain square, the physical mouth or an opening (ๅ ฅๅฃ, entrance). ่จ adds a tall stack of horizontal strokes above a ๅฃ-like base, representing speech, words, and language in the abstract. ้ณ shares a similar upper structure with ่จ but has a different lower half, and refers to sound in the physical sense (้ณๆฅฝ, music) rather than language.
The practical distinction that matters most for reading: ๅฃ kanji tend to be about the physical act (eating, an opening), ่จ kanji tend to be about language and communication, and ้ณ kanji tend to be about sound as a physical phenomenon. When you meet an unfamiliar kanji with one of these three components, ask which of those three domains it most plausibly belongs to.
