India has no single JLPT registration website, and assuming otherwise is the most common way people waste a registration window. Each test city is run by its own host institution with its own portal, its own fee and its own deadline. Your first job is finding which one is yours.

Set by each host institution rather than nationally, so it varies by city. Check the figure on your own centre's site during registration and treat amounts quoted for other cities as unreliable.
Windows generally open around three to four months before the exam and are set per centre, so Delhi and Chennai do not necessarily open on the same day. Confirm with your own host institution.

Before you register
Registration in India goes through the host institution for your city, not through a central Indian site and not through The Japan Foundation directly. Delhi is handled by MOSAI, Pune and Mumbai by JALTAP, Bengaluru by BNK, and so on. Because each runs its own system, a deadline or fee you read for one city tells you nothing reliable about another. The official host list on jlpt.jp is the safest starting point.

Registration Steps
Find the host institution for your city
Start from the official list on jlpt.jp and identify who runs your centre. Everything after this โ the portal, the fee, the deadline, the refund policy โ is set by that institution.
Go to that institution's own portal
Delhi applicants register through MOSAI at jlpt.mosai.org.in. Other cities have their own systems. Search results frequently surface last cycle's links and other cities' pages, so navigate from the official list rather than from a search box.
Register with an email you will still hold in three months
Your admission ticket and any venue change go there. A college address you lose access to over the summer is a poor choice for a July sitting.
Check your level is offered at your centre
Not every centre runs all five levels every sitting, and Santiniketan runs only the July exam. Confirm before you pay rather than after.
Pay and record the transaction reference
If payment succeeds but the portal times out before confirming, that reference is the first thing the institution will ask for. Without it the conversation gets much harder.
Log back in for your admission ticket
The admission ticket (ๅ้จ็ฅจ / juken-hyล) is released a few weeks before the exam and shows your venue, seat number and reporting time. Download and print it. You cannot sit without it.
Teacher's Tips
- If you cannot log in, use the password reset. Do not open a second account: duplicate registrations under one name are routinely rejected and you can lose both.
- Pune and Mumbai share one organizer (JALTAP), so if you are flexible between the two, you are dealing with the same people and the same system.
- Seats are allocated first come, first served at every centre. The first week of the window is where the metros are won or lost.
